Another BBQ

At the end of the All Star Break we were invited to one of DJ's coaches house for a BBQ. It was lots of fun to meet new people and see a different Japanese home.

This BBQ was a very "traditional" Japanese dinner. Right when we arrived the men were summoned out to the patio to cook, eat and drink... while the women and children were to stay in the house. When it came time to eat the guys stayed outside and ate out there and the women sat at the kitchen table inside. The kids never ate. They just played all night! We were introduced to many new things... some we were brave enough to try but others we weren't. They served chicken wings, pieces of beef, sausage, onagi (eel), different fish, edamame, fried chicken skin in soy sauce (yes, just the skin), garlic rice, noodles, and some other things I was too scared to ask what it was so they wouldn't make me try it :) But it was really fun talking with the other women and learning different things from them. We really had a fun time!

At one point in the night I had my hands full trying to get Tessa to eat, feed Brady, and eat myself with one hand and chopsticks! But of course my fabulous husband saw me through the window and felt bad for me so he snuck in to try and help me. He ended up feeding me and Tessa garlic rice while I had Brady dead asleep in my arms. I guess this was a HUGE deal! The women were amazed and were making oohing and aahing noises while I ate. They kept telling DJ that he was so kind! To us it is not a big deal, but I guess this is very rare in the Japanese culture. The interpreter explained that it is like PDA which Japanese men would never show outside of their home. It still amazes me how different our 2 worlds really are!

A few pictures from the night :)
